Key Road Rules & Driving Regulations
To ensure a safe road trip across Uganda, drivers must adhere strictly to national traffic regulations:
- Keep Left: Drive on the left-hand side of the road with right-hand steering vehicles.
- Speed Limits: Maximum 80 km/h on open highways, 50 km/h in urban towns and trading centers, and 40 km/h inside national parks.
- Animals Have Right of Way: When driving inside wildlife parks, yield to animals crossing, switch off your engine, avoid sounding the horn, and remain on designated park tracks.
- Important Traffic Detour Alert: Karuma Bridge on the main Gulu Highway is closed for rehabilitation. Motorists driving between Kampala and Murchison Falls or Gulu must branch off at Kafu → Masindi → Paraa → Pakwach, entering or exiting via Tangi Gate [27]. Respect the 40 km/h park corridor speed limit strictly.
