Camping safaris are an increasingly popular and cost-effective way to experience Uganda’s national parks. By combining your transport and sleeping accommodation into a single rental package, you significantly reduce hotel expenses while sleeping close to nature under the stars.
1. Rooftop Tent Camping Setup
Mounted directly onto the heavy-duty roof rack of our Toyota Land Cruiser Prado TX/TZ, V8, or GX models, rooftop tents unfold in minutes using an integrated aluminum ladder. They feature built-in high-density foam mattresses and elevated waterproof canvas, keeping you raised safely off the ground.
2. Ground Pitching Tent Camping Setup
Because compact 4×4 SUVs like the Toyota RAV4 cannot support heavy rooftop structures, they are paired with high-quality ground pitching tents. Available in 1-, 2-, and 3-person sizes, ground tent camping with a RAV4 ($40/day) is the most affordable self-drive option in Uganda. Ground tents can also be packed into larger Land Cruisers for bigger group safaris.
