Karuma bridge: On 23rd September 2024, the ministry of works, and Transport closed Karuma bridge in order to allow works and rehabilitation. It’s on Gulu Highway and Northern Uganda gate way. The rehabilitation is likely to take 3 months.
This has made itineraries to Murchison falls national park, kidepo, pian Upe to change due to the closer, alternative roads are announced for visitors and motorists to reach their destinations.
Traffic from Northern Uganda have been advised to use the Eastern route, via Gulu, Kamdini, Lira, Soroti, Tirinyi, Pallisa, Iganga, Jinja to Kampala while those using the ferry pass via Gulu, Kamdini, Apac, Masindi Port, Luweero to Kampala.
Moreover, People travelling from Kampala to Gulu, can branch off from kafu, to Masindi, paraa then pakwach route which connects to Gulu. Travelers use Tangi gate to go out of the park and vice versa.
Visitors from Northern Uganda can also pass through the park, Paraa, Masindi and to Kafu. Speed limit in the park which 40km per hour has to be put into consideration.
